As I listened to stories of 100 languages of children, observed the interactions between the Reggio educators and documented my take away learning from today’s powerful teachings, I came away with the following:
The identities and expectations in a learning community are grounded in the Alliance- the dance between theory and practice. In other words, “Pedagogy is movement, it is a continuous movement… I do not think pedagogy knows every day where it goes and where it could go, it is a course that is discovered along the way…” Loris Magaluzzi – Pedagogista 1991
Secondly, Research- There is no hierarchy when there is research by every member of the school community, even our 3 year old students are exploring and questioning and talking about their findings. If we are all working as researchers in our day to day experiences as researchers, there are no hierarchy of roles. Embracing- Accoglienza, we as educators have an enormous responsibility to ensure that all members of our school community are welcomed and have a voice. We invite all, we receive – it is an invitation to our contemporary world. Let’s not limit our conversations to just the school part of the world , we are welcoming all of the world.
Follow me this week, as I continue to learn on how we can bring these principles to the corners of our classrooms and communities.
