Many public school support staff feel their efforts for English Language Learners (ELLs) are insufficient. In this workshop, we will transform effective practices into highly effective ones using the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) framework. We’ll explore key strategies and evaluate current practices for improvement. Join us to enhance your skills and increase your impact on ELLs in your school.
- examine existing support methods and strategies used in interactions with ELLs. By identifying areas for growth, we can focus our efforts on the most impactful changes.
- collaborate with peers by sharing learning practices. Participants will work together to brainstorm new approaches, share experiences, and build a community of practice that encourages ongoing development.
- develop techniques to assist in developing language skills among ELLs through active engagement, scaffolding, and contextualized learning, focusing on their roles within the classroom and in supplemental settings
apply SIOP strategies in various educational contexts, implementing techniques to support ELLs' language development and academic comprehension in everyday activities and interactions.
